Viet Hai Village Cycling & Boat
Cross the bay by boat, then cycle a flat road into a farming valley that has never had a road to the rest of the island.
At a glance
Viet Hai sits inside the national park, ringed by cliffs, reachable only by boat or a long forest trail. Families here still farm rice and raise buffalo. You cross Lan Ha by boat, ride a quiet road through the fields and eat lunch in the village. It is the slowest day we sell, on purpose.
08:00 to 15:30
Highlights
- Boat ride across Lan Ha Bay to the village landing
- Easy cycle through rice fields and forest
- Lunch cooked in a village kitchen
- Time to walk the village and meet the families
- Quiet all day, even in high season
The route

Why we chose this trip
Viet Hai is the closest thing to the village life our family grew up with, and the day boats rush through it. Our guide knows the families, lunch is cooked in a village kitchen, and the money is spent in the village rather than on the boat. If your group wants an extra hour by the water instead of another stop, you get it.
The day, as it really runs
Pickup in town
Hotel pickup in Cat Ba Town, or tea at our house first if you're staying close.
Across the bay
Boat across Lan Ha to the Viet Hai landing, past fish farms and karst islands.
Cycle the valley road
Flat and shaded in places. Bicycles and helmets are ready at the landing.
In the village
Walk the lanes, see the fields and the buffalo, and meet the families who live here.
Village lunch
Home-style lunch cooked in the village: rice, vegetables from the fields, fish from the bay.
Ride and boat back
Cycle back to the landing and cross the bay again.
Home
Drop-off at your hotel. Early enough to rest before dinner.
This is a slow day by design. Tell your guide if you'd rather sit by the water for another hour.
