A house in Cat Ba, and the people in it.

It started at 70 Tung Dinh, with tea, a hand-drawn map, and guests who kept asking one more question.

The house at number 70.

Rustic House is a house of solid wood on a quiet street in Cat Ba Town, about 300 metres from Tung Thu beach. Downstairs is a café; up on floors 7 and 8, a rooftop restaurant over the lake and the karsts.

It is our home base and our proof: recommended by Le Guide du Routard, scored by its own guests, and open for tea whether or not you sleep there.

Visit Rustic House

A Rustic Vietnam began with the question guests kept asking over tea: take us the way you would take your own family. So we did. Cat Ba is the first chapter, not the whole story. The name was chosen for the whole country, and a new region appears on this site only after someone in this family has taken that trip first.

The Rustic Way

Seven small rituals, from your first message to the day after.

Nothing here is a service level. It is how a family on a small island keeps track of the people it hosts.

When you write

A person answers

A host, not a bot and not a price list. We ask what you like: water, forest, food. If a trip does not fit you, we say so, even when it costs us the sale.

After your deposit

Everything in writing

Your confirmation carries your host's name, the licensed operator running your day, and what your month on the island is usually like.

The evening before

The reminder that helps

Your pickup time, the weather as it looks that evening, what to bring, and one number a human answers.

Tour morning

Tea at the house

Guests staying in town start at 70 Tung Dinh: tea, the day's route on a hand-drawn map, ten quiet minutes before the pier.

Midday

One short message

We ask once: is the day as we promised? If yes, we go quiet and let you have it.

That evening

We ask before we ask

First we ask you privately how the day went. If something was off, we take it up with the operator that evening. A review invitation comes later, if you want it.

A day or two after

The next leg

As your trip moves on, we send two or three suggestions for your next stop, the way a neighbour would.

What we check before a day is sold here.

We sell other people's boats and trails, and that is only honest if the checking is real.

Licence and contractPapers we have seen and a signed agreement, before a single guest boards.
