Cat Ba National Park Trekking
A morning inside Cat Ba National Park. Climb through Kim Giao forest with a guide who works this park, to a lookout over the archipelago, back for lunch.
At a glance
The park covers the green spine of the island, and most visitors only see it from a bus window. This morning you are inside it: a steady climb through Kim Giao woodland on worn limestone and tree roots, with a guide who walks these trails for a living. The reward is a rocky lookout over the forest and the islands beyond. It is 3.6 km return, it is a real climb, and you are back in town for lunch.
07:30 to 12:00
Highlights

The route

Why we chose this trip
Plenty of operators drive you to the gate and let the trail do the talking. Ours walks it with you and knows what lives there: which birds are calling, where the macaques cross, why the rangers close parts of the coast to protect the langurs. Eight guests is the ceiling, the park fee is already in the price, and we start at 07:30 on purpose, because the first two hours are the coolest and the only time the forest is properly awake.

Is this day right for you?
The honest version.
A good fit if
- You like walking and want to earn the view rather than drive to it.
- You are happy with a morning that starts at 07:30 and ends with tired legs.
- You want to understand how the park and its wildlife are actually protected.
Tell us early if
- You have knee or ankle trouble. The trail has steep sections and a short scramble on rock, and we will suggest a gentler cave and garden walk instead.
- You are here in June to August. It is hot and humid by ten, so we go early or not at all.
- Your shoes have no grip. Wet limestone is the most common cause of injury in the park, and flip flops do not come.
