Cat Ba Rock Climbing Day

A full day on Cat Ba limestone with a certified guide. Real sport routes from first-timer slabs to hard walls, all gear and instruction included, no experience needed.

Adventure Full day Max 8 guests Small group Cat Ba and Lan Ha Bay

At a glance

Cat Ba's limestone is not just for looking at. The island has solid sport climbing on walls inside the forest, with routes graded 4+ to 7b+, and a day here works for complete beginners as much as keen climbers. A certified guide picks the crag that suits your level, checks every harness, and builds you up from an easy warm-up to whatever you can handle by the afternoon. You bring sportswear, the rest of the gear is on us.

Why we chose this trip

We send guests climbing because the guides are certified, the gear is real and the groups stay small enough that everyone gets rope time. Grades run from 4+ to 7b+, so a nervous first-timer and a keen climber can share one day without either being bored. The crag moves with the shade and the rock conditions, and the guide says no when a route is not right for you, which is most of what a certified guide is for.

The day, as it really runs

Is this day right for you?

The honest version.

A good fit if

  • You have never climbed but want to try it on real rock with real instruction.
  • You climb already and want a full day of routes on solid limestone, up to 7b+.
  • You like the idea of resting between climbs with a view over the bay.

Tell us early if

  • You are scared of heights. Tell the guide at the briefing; he starts you low and easy, and you set your own ceiling all day.
  • Your trip is in the wet months. Wet rock does not climb, so the guide may move the day or the crag.
  • You have shoulder, elbow or finger problems. Climbing finds them, so tell us when you book.
No experience needed
No experience is needed. Many guests climb for the first time on this trip. The guide teaches the basics, checks the gear, and keeps you safe on the rope while you figure out the rest.
Weather and rock
Rock and weather conditions can move the plan. Wet rock is unsafe to climb, so the dry season is best, and on a doubtful morning the guide may change the crag, the hours or the day itself.
Before you book
Tell us your experience and any fitness notes when you book. It lets the guide plan the right routes, and means a first-timer is never pushed onto a wall that is too much.

Questions guests ask

Do I need experience?
No. Many guests climb for the first time on this trip. The guide starts you on easy routes and builds from there, at whatever pace you are comfortable with.
What if I have never climbed at all?
Perfect. All the gear and the instruction are included, and the easiest routes are very approachable. Most first-timers get comfortably off the ground within the first hour.
Is it safe?
You climb with a certified guide, quality equipment and a top-rope setup on most routes. The guide checks every harness and makes the call on which routes open and which stay closed.
What should I wear?
Comfortable sportswear you can move in, plus closed shoes for the short walk to the crag. Climbing shoes, harness and helmet are all provided.
Can two very different climbers share one day?
Yes. Grades run from 4+ to 7b+ on the same crags, so one of you can be on a first-timer slab while the other works a hard line, with the same guide moving between you.
