Three days is enough to do Cat Ba properly: one day on the water, one inside the national park, one for the island itself. Because the trip is private, the shape is yours to change, on the morning if the weather or the mood says so. Night one you sleep on a boat inside the bay. Why we chose this trip

This is the trip we send friends on. Private means private: no stranger joins your boat, and the guide is yours for three days, so the schedule bends at breakfast instead of at a head office. The two nights are deliberately different, water then valley, because that is the island. It costs more than booking three day tours separately, and it should: nothing is shared and nothing is rushed.

Cruise and kayak the bay, swim off the boat, and watch the light go long over the karsts.

Dinner on board and a night at anchor inside the bay.

Day 2 · Morning

Trek the national park

A guided walk up through the forest to the lookout, the one genuinely demanding morning of the trip.

Viet Hai by bike

Down into the valley and onto bicycles for the flat road through Viet Hai village.

Homestay night

Dinner and a night with a host family in the valley, where the day boats have gone home.

Slow cruise and beach

A relaxed final cruise, with time for a swim and a beach before you travel.

Transfer back to Hanoi, or drop-off at your hotel in Cat Ba Town.

A good fit if

  • Cat Ba is the main event of your trip and three days fits it.
  • You would rather pay once for one guide and one plan than stitch day tours together.
  • You like the sound of changing the plan at breakfast.

Tell us early if

  • You are on a tight budget. The 2D1N small group trip covers the same ground for less.
  • Anyone in your party cannot manage a trekking morning with a real climb. We will swap it for a boat or bike day.
  • You want a hotel every night. One night here is on a boat; tell us and we move both nights onto the island.
Private means private
No stranger joins your boat and your guide is yours for three days. The schedule is yours to change on the morning if the weather or the mood says so. That is why this trip costs more than three separate day tours, and the reason most people who book it would not go back.
Weather
Boats don't sail in unsafe seas, and that call belongs to the captain. If a piece of the trip can't run safely we tell you early and rebuild the day, or the whole route, around it before you pay anything extra.
Changing your plans
Message us as early as you can. On a private trip everything is movable, so the earlier we know, the more we can re-arrange rather than refund.

Questions guests ask

Can you build this around what we actually want?
Yes, that is the point of it being private. Swap the trek for a second bay day, add a rock climbing session, add a night in Viet Hai, or slow the whole thing down. Send us the idea on WhatsApp and you get a revised plan and price before you commit.
What if we don't want to sleep on a boat?
Then you don't have to. We move both nights onto the island, either at our own Rustic House in Cat Ba Town or in a Viet Hai homestay. The price changes accordingly, and we tell you by how much before you pay anything.
Is three days too long for Cat Ba?
No, three is the right length for a first visit: one day on the water, one in the park, one for the island itself. Two days works only if you cut something you will miss.
Can you collect us from Hanoi?
Yes. Pickup in the Old Quarter is standard, and we can also arrange Noi Bai airport or Hai Phong. Tell us where you land and we build the transfer into day one.
How is this different from the 2D1N trip?
The 2D1N is a small group of ten with a set shape and a choice to make on day two. This one is private, the guide is yours throughout, both the trek and the village are included, and the itinerary bends whenever you want it to.
