Lan Ha Bay Overnight on a Small Boat
One night at anchor inside Lan Ha Bay. Kayak in the afternoon, sleep on the water, wake to flat calm and limestone on every side.
At a glance
A day trip goes home at four. This one does not. You board in the morning, kayak and swim through the afternoon, and stay on the boat while the day boats leave and the bay goes quiet. Dinner is on board. You wake to flat water and sheer limestone islands, have breakfast, and cruise slowly back the next morning. It is the simplest way to see Lan Ha at the two hours of day when almost nobody else is there.
Highlights
- A night at anchor inside Lan Ha Bay, away from the day boats
- Kayak and swim in the afternoon light
- Dinner on board and a very quiet evening
- Wake to flat water and limestone islands all around
- Small group, with the boat and numbers confirmed before you pay
The route

Why we chose this trip
Anyone can sell you a night on a boat. What we add is the part around it: tea at our house if you are staying in town, a map of the route drawn before you leave, and a host who asks how the night really was, not whether you would like to leave a review. We also tell you plainly which boat we would choose for your group, and which nights of the year we would not.
The day, as it really runs
Pickup and Beo pier
Hotel pickup in Cat Ba Town, then a short ride to Beo pier where you board and meet your guide.
Kayak and swim
Cruise into the quieter channels, paddle through lagoons in double kayaks and swim off the boat.
Dinner and dusk
The boat anchors inside the bay. Dinner is on board while the light goes long over the karsts.
A night on the water
A quiet night at anchor with very little phone signal and no engine noise, only water against the hull.
First light
Wake to flat water and sheer limestone. Breakfast on board while the day boats are still in port.
Slow cruise home
A relaxed cruise back to Beo pier and hotel drop-off in Cat Ba Town, in time for lunch.
Exact times depend on the boat, the tide and the weather, and we confirm them when you book. Nobody sails inside the bay at night, so the boat stays at anchor once it has settled.

Is this day right for you?
The honest version.
A good fit if
- You want to see the bay at dusk and first light, not only in the middle of the day.
- You would rather pay for one good night than three separate day trips.
- You are comfortable with simple, compact sleeping arrangements and very little phone signal.
Tell us early if
- You need hotel style comfort. This is a small boat at anchor, not a resort, and we confirm the exact sleeping arrangements before you pay.
- You get seasick easily. Tell us and we will suggest the calmest month and a place near the middle of the boat.
- You are travelling in July or August. Storms can close the bay, and then we move the night rather than sail into bad weather.
- Tell us your dates first. We confirm this one day by day.
